Why did you choose this job?

The potential for exchange between Asia and Japan

When I was in university, I collaborated on academic research with some students from Southeast Asia. On the weekends, I would take them around to different tourist spots, and their eyes would light up at the traditional Japanese culture and the beauty of Japan’s four seasons. This made me rediscover the charm of Japan. Conversely, during the three years I spent with them, I was also exposed to their values and their positive way of thinking rubbed off on me. This experience helped me realize the potential in people-to-people connections that transcend national boundaries, and it made me feel that I wanted more Asian people to see Japan, and I also wanted Japanese people to learn about Asian culture, which is difficult to fully experience in depth just by being here in Japan. The more cultural exchange there is between Asia and Japan, the richer people’s lives on both sides of the exchange can become. With this feeling in mind, I decided to work for Peach, whose slogan is “Becoming a bridge between Asia and Japan”.

Please describe your work and tell us about its appeals and challenges.

Catching the feelings found behind the numbers

When I first started, it was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and there were times when I asked myself if there was even a need for aviation. But when I was dealing with customers at the airport center where I was assigned, one of them said to me, “Thank you so much for operating these flights,” which reminded me again of the motivation I had before I started working. The new employee training was also held during a time when there were a lot of restrictions in place, but the fact that my supervisor set aside time for online consultations was also a great source of emotional support, and it helped me approach my work with a more positive attitude.
From my fourth year onward, I’ve been working in the Accounting & Finance Office, and that gives me the opportunity to be involved in management, which is something I’ve always been interested in. I learned about data analysis at university, so I can use that knowledge to analyze data such as equipment utilization rates, formulate budgets based on management strategies, and analyze business conditions by comparing budgets and actual results. The work we do is with numbers, but the purpose of our work is to understand the situation of each department behind those numbers, and then provide data that can help create solutions to issues and contribute to making appropriate management decisions. To this end, I try to communicate with people in various departments, and through these conversations, I can stay informed about the situations that are happening on a daily basis.

Creating added value from data

I have access to all kinds of data that is necessary to make our flights happen, so I find it very rewarding in proportion to the amount of money I handle. For the company to grow, we need to take on new challenges, and this job can directly contribute to the company’s growth by indirectly supporting management by providing data that can be used as indicators when making such management decisions. I want to think about things that Peach needs to grow in the future, like in-flight services for passengers to enjoy and systems to make their flights more comfortable, and create added value to make Peach a better airline today than it was yesterday, and even better tomorrow.
I have learned a lot so far by speaking with airport staff, flight attendants, and other front-line workers, but in the future, I want to look more broadly at various departments in the company to understand what they do and build relationships of trust with them. I envision a future where I’ve developed a bird’s-eye view of the company as a whole, and I’m in a position to make management decisions and formulate strategies for Peach so that it can serve as a bridge to Asia.

What are the things that are necessary for a Peach person?

People who can make things exciting

People who have dreams and work hard to make them come true are full of excitement, and just being with them stirs up a sense of challenge in me. There are a lot of people at Peach who have that contagious sense of excitement. I think Peach is a good fit for proactive people who have a positive attitude, like “I do it because I want to!”

Favorite motto

Disinterest is the root of laziness.Disinterest is the root of laziness.

Just accepting things as they are each day and not really doing anything about it won’t change anything.
Having the “desire” to push forward with what you want to do will motivate you to work, and it will gradually lead you in the right direction every day.
I want to always keep in mind what I want to achieve in this company, keep my desire alive, and maintain a sense of excitement as I enjoy my work.

A flight full of respect
for everyone
